In short, KM3 kit passed most tests (including axis) but REFUSED to move the Z axis down. Turned out to be a bad PINDA probe. Sign that it was bad: it never lit up (not that any manual or web page or trouble guide anyplace ever says that it should - but it SHOULD!) Another sign, I suppose, could be if the light never goes out in the presence of iron based objects.
